Episode Two - "Father's Influence..."
The second show begins with a collection of interviews about how these artist's fathers have influenced them on playing the blues. For some, who's fathers are musicians, it's a passing of the torch. For others, it's simply through the father's love of music that they have wound up where they are today. The second segment is called "the highlight of my career" and it features Canada's prime minister of the blues, Dutch Mason. In this short segment, he shares the highlight of his career. The Blues Jam Tracks is about a CD that was produced by Pete Schmidt and Shane Scott. It is an instrumental blues CD containing rhythm tracks that you can play along to. So, if you don't have a band to play with, you can just use this CD to practice your blues. I thought it was a great idea and a great CD. "Corina, Corina" is a traditional tune that was covered on the Snooky Pryor and His Mississippi Wrecking Crew CD. This video was shot at Liquid and it features Snooky Pryor, Mel Brown, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Pinetop Perkins and Bob Stroger. The CD is available through Electro-Fi Records and I must tell you, it was one of the highlights of this project to be invited to watch the masters of the blues lay down their magic in the studio. Collectively, I think there was way over 200 years of blues experience amongst the five of them. It was simply awe-inspiring. The profile on Mudcat Ward was simply inspired by his words and his passion for the blues. Mudcat has played on over 50 blues albums and is a member of Sugar Ray Norcia's Bluetones. He is an amazing bassist who captures essence and the pure love of the blues through his words and his playing. Unfortunately for him, he is also a huge Boston Red Sox fan! Maybe next year, Mudcat, maybe next year. |
